Regarded as The Landlord of Amapiano, De Mthuda in the past year has become a household name. With little publicity and promotion, the leading producer-DJ has risen to become one of the most respected tastemakers in Amapiano. A fact which was confirmed at the COVID safe- exclusive listening session hosted on Wednesday, 20 October 2021 at UMG Africa. De Mthuda gave industry insiders and some of his fans the first listen, to his new album, The Landlord.
The uMsholozi hitmaker started with his already released summer anthems including Emlanjeni, Jola, Mhlaba Wonke and the current lead single, Khanda Liyazula. With live renditions by collaborators Sino Msolo and Mthunzi, with the formal introduction of rising star, Nomfundo on the SkandiYano pioneering single Inkomo Zam.
All these pre-released summer anthems were the teaser for what listeners can expect from Apple Music cover stars newly released fourth studio album, The Landlord. The name of the album is derived from the John Wick producer’s title within Amapiano. As a pioneer in the house genre.
When thinking about the listening experience of The Landlord. Music lovers can expect a 12-track album which is grounded in contemporary Amapiano and a union of the future of the sound. Throughout the album De Mthuda fuses other musical genres including Afro-pop, Deep Tech and Maskandi. Not only that, but the album is the celebration of De Mthuda’s continued praise for upcoming voices in Amapiano.
From his recurring collaboration with Double Double vocalist, Sino Msolo, John Wick producer-DJ, Da Muziqal Chef, Murumba and guitarist, Sipho Magugulelaz. The Shesha hit maker also included some of the most current musicians as features on the album including award- nominated artist, Focalistic and Njelic on Jaiva whilst Murumba is dominating on the new street single Gijima
