Nicki Minaj’s father, Robert Maraj, was struck and killed in a hit-and-run accident Friday evening, TMZ is reporting.
According to information TMZ obtained from Nassau County Police in New York, around 6 pm February 12, Maraj was walking between Roslyn Road and Raff Avenue in Long Island when he was struck by a car. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene while Maraj was reportedly transported to a local hospital in critical condition where he later died.
Minaj’s rep confirmed the news of her father’s passing, though the rapper who just welcomed her first son four months ago has yet to release a statement.

New York police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the driver responsible for Maraj’s death as witnesses have been unable to provide a useful description of the individual or the car they were driving.
Maraj, a financial executive and part-time gospel singer, was of Afro- and Indo-Trinidadian descent. He was 64 at the time of his death.
