After more than 20 years at the forefront of South African music, Oskido is stepping back—but only just enough to push others forward. The legendary producer and hitmaker has just released his latest album, We Are Next Gen, and it’s not your typical star-led project. It’s a handover.
“This time, it’s not about me,” Oskido said in a video explaining the project. “When I started, someone believed in me—now it’s my turn.”
We Are Next Gen is Oskido’s bold new vision: a platform designed to spotlight up-and-coming talent. From vocalists and storytellers to producers who are just getting their break, the album is filled with raw, unfiltered voices on the brink of something big.
They’re hungry, they’re fresh, and they’ve got something special. This is about giving them the space and push they deserve,” he explained.
But while the project looks forward, it also takes a tender glance back.
The album features an acoustic version of iNtwana Yam, Oskido’s collaboration with the late singer Yallunder—real name Yolanda Nyembezi—who passed away in March this year at just 30 years old after a short illness. This new version of the song is quieter, more intimate—almost like a goodbye.
The original version, a vibrant, upbeat anthem, first dropped in late 2023 on Oskido’s Legend Live album. But this acoustic re-release, just two months after her passing, feels like a heartfelt tribute to a rising star whose light was taken far too soon.
“She brought soul to every note,” Oskido has said of working with Yallunder.
With We Are Next Gen, Oskido isn’t just producing music—he’s building a bridge. For many of the featured artists, this album is their first real shot. For others, it’s a level-up moment. And for listeners, it’s a glimpse into the future of South African music, curated by one of its most trusted names.
