In a heartfelt moment of unity and pride, the Proteas cricket team received a spirited send-off on Friday at the SAB headquarters in Bryanston, ahead of their clash against Australia in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London from June 11 to 13.
At the centre of the occasion stood captain Temba Bavuma—calm, composed, and carrying the hopes of a nation.
The send-off hosted by Castle Lager, held in true Mzansi style, brought together fans, supporters, and partners to celebrate the Proteas’ milestone. It was more than just a farewell—it was a moment of reflection, pride, and anticipation. As the first South African side to step onto the hallowed turf of Lord’s back in 1907, the significance of this return is steeped in history.

At the event, Bavuma opened up about the emotional weight of the occasion. “I’m excited—but also a little nervous,” he admitted. “As the days get closer, everything we’ve been preparing for feels very real now.”
The Proteas skipper was quick to highlight the crucial role of fan support. “They must keep on supporting us. We feed off their energy. We’ll try our utmost best to put some smiles on your faces,” he said with a humble smile.
