After nearly two decades of navigating the music industry, South African singer-songwriter Siphokazi has officially declared her independence as an artist. In a heartfelt announcement issued on June 13 by Pathsela Music, the award-winning artist shared that she is no longer signed to or managed by her previous record label — a significant move after 16 years.

“This clarification may be long overdue,” Siphokazi wrote, “but it comes from a place of love and deep respect — for my supporters, the music industry, and the truth of my journey.”

While acknowledging the formative role her former label played in launching her career and shaping her musical path, Siphokazi expressed her deep gratitude for the opportunities it afforded her. However, she emphasised that her evolution as an artist and individual required a new direction — one led by her own voice and creative autonomy.

Siphokazi’s journey hasn’t been without its challenges. As a woman in the industry, she’s faced the usual hurdles — from structural limitations to creative constraints. Yet, she notes, “Every obstacle has contributed to my growth — not only as a singer and songwriter, but also as a social activist and a care giver.”

Throughout her career, Siphokazi has remained steadfast in her purpose: to heal, uplift, and inspire through music and storytelling. Now based in Gauteng, she continues to perform live, write original songs, and collaborate with fellow creatives as she embarks on this next phase of her journey.

“To those who’ve supported me — thank you. To those just discovering my music — welcome,” she said. “The road ahead is bright, and I’m excited to share more music, more moments, and more education through my music.”
