Drake’s verse on “Mr. Right Now”, the latest collaboration between 21 Savage and Metro Boomin, is a jaw dropper. SZA responded and confirmed she was not underage when she dated Drake.
On the track, which arrived on 21 and Metro’s long-awaited Savage Mode II — the Toronto rap star mentions his past relationship with Top Dawg Entertainment songstress where he says: “Yeah, said she wanna fuck to some SZA, wait / ‘Cause I used to date SZA back in ’08 / If you cool with it, baby, she can still play.”
The lyrics rose some eyebrows, not only for the juicy reveal of their romance, but also the fact that if they actually dated in 2008. As per usual, Tweeps went on investigator mode, and found out that when the musicians were together, Drake would have been 21 years old with SZA being just 17.
In a series of tweets, SZA addressed and cleared up the rumours and wrote: “So It was actually 2009 lol. in this case a year of poetic rap license mattered lol I think he just innocently rhymed 08 w wait. Anybody who really knows me and was around during this time can confirm… it’s all love all peace.”
“I just didn’t want anybody thinking anything underage or creepy was happening,” she added in another tweet. “Completely innocent. Lifetimes ago.”
With all of that going on, SZA has also been busy cooking something in the recording studio. After nearly three years since the release of her last album, the singer debuted a new single featuring Ty Dollar $ign, “Hit Different,” and an accompanying music video (which she also directed).
