Themba Zwane scoops PSL footballer of the season at PSL Awards

It was a big night for the Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Themba Zwane stole the show at the 2019/20 PSL Awards on Thursday night taking home three major awards.

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) Awards were hosted virtually on Thursday night from the SuperSport studios in Randburg, Johannesburg. While Covid-19 may have slightly restrained the festivities, soccer players as well as soccer fanatics were excited for their favourite football stars to receive recognition for all their sporting efforts during the last season.

Zwane was crowned the 2019/20 PSL Footballer of the Season and Absa Premiership Player’s Player of the Season. The Bafana Bafana star completed a hat trick when he was also named as the Absa Premiership Midfielder of the Season.

Themba Zwane, who scored 23 goals for his team last season, may have been the most hyped for the evening after walking away with three awards, namely Midfielder of the Season, Player’s Player of the Season and Player of the Season.

Amongst other winners, the former Mamelodi Sundowns coach, Pitso Mosimane took the Absa Premiership Coach of the Season for a record third time in a row. Mosimane guided Mamelodi Sundowns to yet another Absa Premiership title in September. This was Mamelodi Sundowns’ third consecutive trophy.

Following that, Baroka FC’s Goodman Mosele took the Absa Premiership Most Promising Player award in a category that was highly contested by some of the country’s most promising talent. This award is awarded to players under the age of 21.
