TV Show Recommendations to Guide You Through Your Twenties

Ah yes, the twenty-somethings. The age where we think we should all have our lives in order, but are grasping at every straw we possibly can.

Old enough to know better, but also young enough to make a huge load of mistakes. Old enough to live independently, but too young to afford enough of the lives we truly aspire to live. For those of us that feel lost and coming into our own, here are some series recommendations that will help you remember that you are not alone.

    Insecure

29-year-old Issa Dee realises she has spent her 20s not fighting hard enough for the life she wants. Questioning her existence, her relationship with her long-term boyfriend Lawrence, and her job working for a non-profit, she begins to acknowledge that she is not happy as she approaches her thirties. Alongside her is her best friend, Molly, who gives the series a different perspective of someone who does have their life together, but nobody to share it with. The two women live their lives navigating love, life, friendships and their own family dynamics that have shaped who they are.

      Sex and The City

I know, I know, the ladies of Sex and The City are in their thirties, but their experiences do apply to the lives of people 10 years their junior. Sex columnist Carrie Bradshaw and her friends are four women living in New York City and understanding how to reclaim autonomy over their sexuality whilst building their lives and each of them trying to find Mr. Right.

      Living Single

Khadijah, Synclaire, Max, and Regine (and their neighbours Kyle and Overton) are six educated, Black twenty-somethings sharing their lives in a Brooklyn brownstone. Together, they navigate adulthood, careers, and hilarious situations that come with growing pains.

      Queenie

After being dumped by her long-term boyfriend and moving out of their shared apartment, Queenie Jenkins goes on a journey of self-discovery and winds up seeking comfort in the wrong places. Throughout this journey, wounds from her past begin to reopen and she is forced to face her inner demons that shape the worst version of who she is.

      The Bold Type

Kat, Sutton and Jane are three friends who work for a prestigious women’s magazine. They encounter different challenges in their careers alongside their romantic pursuits.

      Grown-ish

A spin-off of the hit comedy show Black-ish, Grown-ish follows Zoey Johnson into her university years. She and her group of eccentric friends face the trials and tribulations that come with leaving the nest and building a life of your own away from home.

These shows will act as a guide and a reminder that you are right where you need to be, and there is no rush to have your entire life figured out immediately.
