Our very own Miss Universe Zozi Tunzi has revealed that she will be participating in the annual AIDS walk New York 2020 which will be taking place virtually this year on Sunday the 7th of June 2020.
The South African Model and beauty queen resides in New York City, and takes part in a number of events and appearances throughout the world.
As part of the many things that she does and believes in, Zozi Tunzi is an activist against gender violence and she is working with the United Nations on their “HeforShe” campaign. “It’s young men standing up for women and saying, ‘Let’s bridge the gap of inequality and then look at women as our equals,'” she explained.
As part of her advocacy, she launched the “Miss South Africa Love Letter” campaign. “I called on men to direct messages of support, you know, to South African women of love. And to just send light because a lot had been happening in our country. A lot of gender-based violence, a lot of femicides. And I was like, let’s just start, you know, creating a narrative where we’re more supportive and loving of each other.”
Now she is being one of the great voices in the annual AIDS walk New York. AIDS Walk New York is the largest single-day AIDS fundraising event in the world. In its 34 years, AIDS Walk New York has inspired nearly 890,000 people to walk and millions more to donate, raising nearly $155 million to combat HIV and AIDS. The funds raised at the event remain a vital lifeline sustaining the prevention, care, and advocacy programs GMHC provides for the thousands of individuals and families affected by the disease in the tri-state area. The proceeds also benefit several HIV/AIDS service organizations that are able to participate as teams and raise funds through the Community Partnership Program (CPP).
Zozi Tunzi emphasised that our support is especially important because of the emergency COVID19 services provided by GMHC. “The AIDS walk New York Live At Home will feature musical performances and special celebrity appearances”- Tunzi said
