The 2026 edition marks a significant milestone for the awards, with organisers introducing more categories and welcoming nominees from several African countries. This year’s theme, “Rewind” celebrates the journey of the Basadi in Music Awards over the past five years while honouring the trailblazing women who have helped shape the African music industry. The awards continue to shine a spotlight not only on artists in front of the microphone but also on the women working behind the scenes, including songwriters, producers, choreographers, stylists and executives.

Leading this year’s nominations is Zee Nxumalo, who received six nominations, making her the most nominated artist of the 2026 awards. She is followed by MaWhoo with five nominations, while stars such as Tyla, Nkosazana Daughter, Kamo Mphela, DJ Zinhle, Uncle Waffles, Kelly Khumalo and Ayra Starr are also among those recognised across various categories.
