A user known as @exxtci shared that he had been quoted $300 (R5082.85 at the time of writing this article) to replace the spark plugs on his $4,000 BMW. Rather than paying for the service, the content creator, who frequently posts car-related videos, chose to take on the repair himself.

The clip forms part of his “no dad, no problem” series, where he documents his attempts at car maintenance despite having no prior experience. After purchasing the necessary parts, @exxtci opens the hood and begins locating the spark plugs and coil packs, mentioning that he used ChatGPT for guidance during parts of the process.

He successfully removes the coil packs, commenting on how hot it was under the hood, before proceeding to the spark plugs. He then installs the new components and reassembles the engine.

Despite completing the repair, @exxtci makes clear he’s not a trained mechanic. “I’ve never done this in my life,” @exxtci says. He then films himself starting the car and gives his own review: “That’s all I needed to see,” @exxtci says, after describing the startup as “smooth.”

He added that repairing the car’s A/C system is next on his to-do list, inviting viewers with advice or tips to share their input in the comments or reach out directly.

At the time of writing, the video had garnered more than 134,500 views, although some viewers expressed skepticism about whether the repair had been completed correctly.

While many commenters praised @exxtci for tackling the repair himself, some said the parts he used could cause issues down the line.
