South African Gospel and Jazz vocalist Deborah McKay pays tribute to her late mother through “I Really Do,” a heartfelt Jazz and Soul song that reflects on the bond between a mother and daughter and the memories that remain after losing someone you love.
Written in memory of her mother, “I Really Do” speaks about a love that remains long after loss. The release comes as McKay continues to build on the success of her Gospel Meets Jazz album, The Elevation, which was released in March 2026. McKay’s work has also attracted international recognition, with the singer receiving two nominations at the 6th Edition of the Western Gospel Awards in Ghana. She is nominated for Urban/Contemporary Gospel Artiste of the Year and Best Vocalist – Diaspora.
Before heading to Ghana, McKay will take her music to the stage for The Inspiration: Jazz Meets Gospel at The Playhouse in Durban on 23 October 2026. Performing with an orchestra, she will present a live show built around the Gospel and Jazz influences that have shaped her career, while sharing the stories behind the music.
