Makhadzi Claims She’s Been Left Stranded in Botswana After Passport and Car Were Taken

South African music star Makhadzi has found herself at the centre of a worrying situation in Botswana after claiming that her passport, car and personal belongings were taken, leaving her unable to return home for three days.

The Ghanama hitmaker took to social media on Tuesday, 3 November, to share her experience, revealing that the ordeal had left her feeling helpless, harassed and even kidnapped.

According to Makhadzi, the incident happened while she was performing at an event in Botswana. She was busy with her fourth song when her road manager signalled that something was wrong. She eventually stepped away from the stage, leaving her dancers to continue performing, only to find a group of men waiting near her vehicle.

The singer claims that two men approached her, saying they had a letter to serve her and demanding her passport. However, she became suspicious when they allegedly failed to produce police uniforms, identification, name tags or any warrant authorising them to take her documents.

Makhadzi questioned their identity and reportedly requested that the matter be handled at a police station, where everything could be properly explained.

The situation is reportedly linked to an ongoing dispute involving Botswana promoter Gilbert “PP” Seagile. Previous reports have raised allegations of financial disagreements between the two, including claims involving P50 000 (approximately R60 000) and issues surrounding the organisation of her shows in Botswana. The details of the dispute remain contested.

The situation has since attracted attention from South African authorities, with the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) confirming that it is aware of the matter.

DIRCO spokesperson Clayson Monyela responded to the situation on X, saying: “We are attending to this matter. An update will be provided.”

Meanwhile, Makhadzi's situation has sparked mixed reactions online. While some South Africans are demanding that she be assisted and safely brought back home, others have questioned the circumstances surrounding the dispute.

With her passport and vehicle allegedly still being held, fans are hoping the matter will be resolved soon.

Makhadzi is also preparing for her upcoming One Woman Show, scheduled to take place on 24 December at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.
