Grammy award winner and producer MÖRDA steps into a bold new chapter as he headlines Road to Bassline Fest Presents: History of House at the Lyric Theatre, Gold Reef City. This unique live performance on July 28 marks his first-ever onstage collaboration with the internationally acclaimed Soweto Gospel Choir.
Blending the spiritual power of gospel with the pulse of Afro house, Amapiano, and classic house anthems, the show promises to be a genre-bending spectacle — with MÖRDA driving its creative heartbeat.
“I want this music to bring peace and joy. I want people to dance, to feel free,” says MÖRDA, who has carved a solo path after rising to fame as part of Black Motion.
Fans can expect a high-energy set that includes tracks from MÖRDA’s acclaimed Asante trilogy, including his latest single, “Glory” featuring Nomfundo Moh and Nontokozo Mkhize. With his signature live production, spiritual energy, and boundary-pushing sound, MÖRDA continues to reinvent South African electronic music — all while keeping people on their feet.
Sharing the stage is the legendary Soweto Gospel Choir, led by Shimmy Jiyane, who are fresh off their Australasian tour. They’ll debut their History of House album to a South African audience — offering moving renditions of global house hits like “Silence” and “Ride Like the Wind,” reimagined in indigenous languages.
“We can’t wait to showcase our take on these evergreen house classics, especially doing this on stage with MÖRDA for the first time,” says Jiyane.
