Controversial blogger and social media personality Musa Khawula is reportedly in declining health as he remains in pre-trial at Sun City Prison. The 33-year-old has been in custody since January 2025, facing serious charges including crimen injuria, hate speech, contraventions of the Cybercrimes Act, and an attempted murder charge dating back to 2021. His bail has been consistently denied as investigations continue.
Sources close to Khawula told News24 that his condition has significantly deteriorated during his time behind bars. He is said to be heavily reliant on close friends for basic necessities such as food, medication, and hygiene products.
Known for his outspoken and often controversial commentary on social media, Khawula has long been a divisive figure. Now, his once-bold presence has reportedly faded. A recent court appearance at the Fochville Magistrate’s Court drew concern, with observers noting his frail and withdrawn demeanour, a stark contrast to his previously energetic persona.

In response, supporters have launched a “Free Musa” campaign, selling merchandise like T-shirts in an effort to raise money for his legal defence. However, the initiative has struggled financially, with a Back-a-Buddy crowdfunding campaign raising less than R2 000 of its R50 000 goal.
Despite limited public support, Khawula’s close friends continue to step in, sending care packages and covering basic needs. One source expressed frustration over the lack of tangible help from Khawula’s larger online following, saying: “People are always asking about him, but they won’t even send R500. Social media is exhausting, no one really cares. Journalists just want to sell stories. Only Musa’s real friends are there for him.”
