However, in this generation, it seems Sunnydale will continue to remain a sinkhole of what used to be the most horrid town in California. The highly anticipated ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ reboot has been axed by Hulu before it had made its way to our screens.
The Slayer herself, Sarah Michelle Gellar, took to her Instagram to share the heartbreaking news with fans who were looking forward to the new horrors Sunnydale had in store.
“Unfortunately, Hulu has decided not to move forward with ‘Buffy: New Sunnydale’,” she stated.
“I want to thank Chloe Zhao, because I never thought I would find myself back in Buffy’s stylish yet affordable boots.” She continued. Hearing this announcement drove a stake through the hearts of many fans and we all watched our hopes turn to dust. A groundbreaking, first-of-its-kind show such as Buffy would have blended in well with the current atmosphere of television.

The reboot was meant to follow Nova, a 16-year-old girl living in the newly rebuilt Sunnydale, which was a sinkhole in the original series finale. Nova was meant to be the new slayer, and Sarah Michelle Gella was set to reprise her role as Buffy Summers serving as a mentor for Nova as she navigates being a new addition to the troop of slayers.
Yes, troop of slayers. Remember the group of young girls that Buffy was training in the final season of the original show?
We would have seen a lot of the fan favourites returning to give an update of what each character has been up to in their lives. Let’s just hope another network or streamer to pick it up.
