SUSPECT ARRESTED FOR DJ WARRAS’S MURDER HAS BEEN DENIED BAIL

Victor Majola, the man arrested in connection with the killing of well-known DJ and media personality Warrick “DJ Warras”, is now facing serious charges, including premeditated murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

DJ Warras, 40, was shot and killed in a shocking daytime attack in Johannesburg’s central business district. According to police, the incident was carefully planned. Warras had just parked his car when three suspects approached him, opened fire, and then fled the scene on foot. CCTV footage later surfaced showing a man believed to be wearing a security uniform firing at him, a detail that intensified public outrage and disbelief.

Majola was taken into custody on 22 December 2025 after Gauteng police moved quickly to track down those believed to be behind the killing. He appeared before the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court, where the State formally charged him. While another suspect was initially arrested, the charges against that individual were later provisionally withdrawn due to insufficient evidence, leaving Majola as the main accused in the case.

During subsequent court proceedings, Majola applied for bail. The State strongly opposed the application, arguing that the seriousness of the charges and the nature of the crime warranted his continued detention. The court agreed, and Majola was denied bail. His defence team has since claimed that he was assaulted by police during his arrest, allegations which authorities have denied, stating that the investigation is being handled lawfully and supported by strong evidence.

Friends and colleagues say DJ Warras had been living under constant threat long before his death. He was reportedly involved in efforts to reclaim hijacked buildings in the CBD and had obtained several protection orders against individuals linked to criminal syndicates operating in the Zambezi building complex. His activism and outspoken stance against corruption and urban crime are widely believed to have made him a target.

The murder has sent shockwaves through South Africa’s entertainment and media circles. Tributes have poured in from artists, journalists, and activists, many describing Warras as a courageous figure who refused to be silenced. As the case continues, questions remain about whether Majola acted alone or is part of a broader network tied to organised crime in Johannesburg.
