Lizzo has scored another major legal victory after a US federal judge dismissed the remaining claims in a lawsuit brought by her former wardrobe stylist, Asha Daniels.

The lawsuit, which dates back nearly three years, accused Lizzo’s touring company, Big Grrrl Big Touring Inc., of creating a hostile work environment during the singer’s 2023 European tour.

Daniels had alleged that she experienced sexual and racial harassment, disability discrimination and other inappropriate workplace conduct while working with Lizzo’s touring team.

However, US District Judge Fernando L. Aenlle-Rocha ruled that Daniels had not presented enough evidence for the remaining claims to proceed to trial.

The judge found that the alleged conduct did not meet the legal threshold required under federal workplace discrimination laws. He also rejected Daniels’ disability discrimination claim, determining that the injuries she described did not qualify as disabilities under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

While the lawsuit was initially filed against Lizzo, her touring company and members of her team, the singer herself was dismissed as a defendant in December 2024. That left Big Grrrl Big Touring Inc. as the remaining defendant in the case.

Daniels, who worked as a wardrobe stylist during the European leg of Lizzo’s Special Tour, had accused members of the touring team of inappropriate behaviour and alleged that the workplace was hostile and unsafe. Lizzo has consistently denied the allegations!

Following the latest ruling, Lizzo’s legal team described the decision as a major victory for the Grammy-winning star.

Despite the dismissal, Daniels’ lawyer has criticised the decision, arguing that the evidence presented should have been assessed by a jury rather than dismissed at this stage. Her legal team has also indicated that they are considering further legal options following the ruling.

For Lizzo, the decision brings an end to another chapter in a series of legal battles that have followed allegations made by former members of her team.

However, the singer’s legal troubles are not completely over. A separate lawsuit brought by three former dancers remains ongoing, meaning Lizzo could still face further legal proceedings connected to allegations made by former employees.

For now, the latest ruling represents a significant win for Lizzo and her touring company as the court battle stemming from her 2023 tour comes to a close.
