According to MDNnewss, the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) found that the Mpumalanga Department of Health gave Tark Group Pty Ltd two contracts to provide medical jumpsuits and surgical masks.

Judge David Makhoba ruled on 25 March 2026 that the contracts were “unlawfully awarded to the company, constitutionally invalid, and void from the outset.” He also found that the company failed to meet certain compliance requirements.

As a result, both Bonelela Mgudlwa and Katleho Mokonyane were held liable for repaying R14.3 million, with findings that they “acted fraudulently and dishonestly in securing and executing the contracts.” They have been ordered to return the full amount, forfeit any profits, and cover the Special Investigating Unit’s legal costs.

In a previous report by Briefly News, Terry Pheto was linked to another multi-million-rand looting scandal. The revelation was made by a senior manager from the Special Investigating Unit, who is leading the probe into the National Lotteries Commission, during a briefing before the National Assembly’s Portfolio Committee on Trade, Industry and Competition on Tuesday, 24 March 2026.

Social media users reacted with shock to the allegations, with reports claiming that the SIU has implicated Terry Pheto and former lottery officials in a R205.6 million circumcision-related scandal, raising serious concerns about corruption, accountability, and the misuse of funds intended for critical health initiatives.
