Asavela Mqokiyana was apparently in a serious hurry! She reportedly found herself on the wrong side of the law after allegedly being caught driving at 198km/h on the N2 highway in KwaZulu-Natal.
According to reports, Asavela was driving a BMW X3 near Ellingham when Road Traffic Inspectorate officers pulled her over. The problem? She was allegedly travelling at 198km/h in a zone where the speed limit is 120km/h. That's 78km/h over the limit!
The actress reportedly appeared before the Scottburgh Magistrates’ Court on 19 October and was expected to return on 28 October. Her arrest was confirmed by KwaZulu-Natal Transport and Human Settlements MEC Siboniso Duma, who made it clear that authorities are not taking reckless driving lightly.
It seems the timing couldn't be more serious. With the festive season approaching, traffic officials are stepping up road safety operations to make sure motorists don't turn the highways into their personal race tracks.
What's your hot take on this story?
Instead of making headlines for her acting, the actress is making news over an alleged highway speeding incident. With the reported court proceedings adding another twist to the story, fans will be watching to see how the matter unfolds.
For now, one thing is clear: the speed limit is not a suggestion, and no matter how urgent the destination is, getting there safely is what matters most.
