Rising Afropop sensation Bash Lavida officially steps into his solo spotlight today with the release of his debut single, "Ngikhethe Kahle". The single, out now on all major digital streaming platforms, marks a defining milestone for the Ladysmith-born artist as he begins his new chapter as a solo act.
"Ngikhethe Kahle", which translates to "Choose Me Well", is more than a love song. It is a vow, a reflection, and a heartfelt ode to choosing and being chosen by the right person.
At its core, "Ngikhethe Kahle" comes from a very personal and emotional place.
"This song comes from a very personal and emotional place. I drew inspiration from someone I admire and love, as well as from seeing people who were fortunate enough to marry their high school sweethearts and best friends," Bash Lavida shares.
"It made me reflect deeply on love, commitment, and the importance of choosing the right person to walk through life with. For me, love is not just about being together when everything is going well. It's about finding someone who will stand by you when life gets difficult, someone who will hold your hand when you're at your lowest, believe in you when things don't make sense, and choose you even when times are tough."
That is the message at the heart of the record.
"The song speaks about the beauty of being loved genuinely and making the right choice when it comes to a life partner. I believe many people will find a piece of themselves in this song because love is something we all experience differently, but deep down, we all want someone who chooses us wholeheartedly."
WHO IS BASH LAVIDA?
Bash Lavida is Sphamandla Nzama, born and bred in the dusty streets of Ladysmith, in the heart of E-Section.
"Bash Lavida is more than just a name; it represents my roots, my upbringing, and the journey that made me who I am today. I carry the pride of Ladysmith and E-Section wherever I go," he says. He remained in E-Section until he completed his matric at Sakhelwe High School.
His musical bloodline runs deep. "I come from a family of musicians, even though most of them didn't get the opportunity to take their music careers as far as they would have wanted." His father, an Isicathamiya singer who still sings today, was his first teacher. His uncle sang Gospel. It was his father who taught him how to sing Isicathamiya, a foundation that shapes his harmony and soul to this day.
That gift showed early. While at Sesikhona Primary School, he and his friends Nzuzo Shabalala, Sphamandla Dlamini, Andile Sthole, and Sphesihle Dlamini entered a school competition performing one of his father's songs, and won.
What's your hot take on this story?
Bash Lavida's journey began in 2012 in House music, where his passion first ignited. By 2014, inspired by artists he looked up to including Blaq Diamond, Aubrey Qwana, and Auto KC, he made the defining transition into Afropop.
"That change marked a turning point in my musical journey. I discovered a sound that connected with me on a deeper level," he says.
Before fully committing to music, he ventured into acting in 2017, appearing on Isidingo and The Queen, while pursuing his dream of becoming a professional footballer.
"Little did I know that God had other plans for my life."
The turning point came through brotherhood. His friend Xowla encouraged him not to give up and provided him with a studio. Later, his close friend Vesta Lav reminded him he could become anything if he stayed focused. He then joined forces with Langaway to form the duo B.O.S, where they built their sound for many years before deciding to pursue solo paths.
Apart from his releases with B.O.S, "Ngikhethe Kahle" is officially Bash Lavida's first release as a solo artist, and he credits his team for bringing the vision to life.
"I will forever be grateful to my management team, Sir Ntobeko Communications, for making this possible. They believed in me, supported my vision, and helped build the Bash Lavida brand into what it is today. They saw potential in me when others didn't, and they made things happen when people said they wouldn't."
With "Ngikhethe Kahle", Bash Lavida delivers his story, rooted in Isicathamiya harmonies, shaped by Ladysmith, and refined into contemporary Afropop. It announces the arrival of an artist ready to carry his family's musical legacy onto the national stage.
Bash Lavida's debut single "Ngikhethe Kahle" is available today, 30 October 2026, on all digital streaming platforms.
