Trouble is in paradise for media personality Phumeza Mdabe and musician husband Shota as divorce rumours spark.
News has surfaced about the couple, who met in 2007 and got married in 2014, that Phumeza has allegedly filed for divorce, reportedly accusing Shota, real name Mnqobi Mdabe, of cheating on her.
Not only did Phumeza allegedly leave him over adultery, but also due to emotional and psychological abuse she claims to have endured in the marriage.
According to a Sunday World report, close sources revealed that Phumeza initiated divorce proceedings in July 2025, instructing her legal team to file the necessary documents. It’s understood that the alleged infidelity was the final straw for the TV host and actress.
“Phumeza said Mnqobi cheated on her, and that was the last straw that broke the camel’s back,” a source told the publication. “She tried to forgive him, but she found it impossible because he had betrayed her trust.”

The source added that Phumeza initially tried to separate from Mnqobi amicably, without involving lawyers. However, after reportedly receiving no cooperation, she decided to proceed formally. The lack of engagement allegedly convinced her not to pursue mediation once legal action had begun.
Despite the serious allegations, the couple is said to still be living under the same roof, although Mnqobi is currently out of the country. He is known to travel between April and October each year for work. Those close to the couple remain hopeful that they may still resolve their differences upon his return.
The source further claimed that Phumeza has proposed an equal division of their estate, which includes high-value assets such as a Porsche and a Volvo SUV, acquired during their marriage under an out-of-community of property with accrual agreement.
Additionally, Phumeza is reportedly seeking R45 000 in monthly spousal maintenance, along with R5 000 per month to support the care of their partially blind child.
