Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye has once again found himself making headlines for all the wrong reasons after being arrested following an alleged altercation with an e-hailing driver. He is facing serious charges including kidnapping, the unlawful discharge of a firearm, and defeating the ends of justice.
According to SAPS national spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, the incident allegedly took place at around 7:30am on Sunday morning. Reports indicate that an e-hailing driver had just dropped off a female passenger at a residence when he was confronted by Molemo.
Police say Jub Jub allegedly accused the driver of having a relationship with his girlfriend. What started as a confrontation quickly escalated, with authorities alleging that the presenter forced the driver into his vehicle and prevented him from leaving the scene.
During the incident, he allegedly produced a firearm and fired a shot in the driver’s direction. Fortunately, the driver was not injured and managed to escape before reporting the matter to police. His complaint led to Jub Jub’s arrest shortly afterwards.
The latest allegations add to a legal history that has often placed the media personality under public scrutiny. In 2012, he was convicted of culpable homicide in connection with a fatal drag-racing crash that occurred in 2010. He was released on parole in 2017 after serving more than four years in prison and later rebuilt his public profile as the host of Moja Love’s controversial relationship-investigation show, Uyajola 9/9.
