Makhadzi is on her way home. The singer has been granted permission to leave Botswana after she and local promoter Gilbert Seagile of Gilbert Promotions reached an agreement in court on Wednesday, 4 November.
The Venda star, whose real name is Ndivhudzannyi Ralivhona, had been stranded in Gaborone since Saturday, 31 October. According to Makhadzi, she was performing at a show when her road manager alerted her that people wanted to serve her with a document. She was then told to hand over her passport, and her car and belongings were also taken.
In a video shared online, she said she felt kidnapped and asked for help. South Africa’s Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) said it was attending to the matter.
The dispute stems from a contractual and financial disagreement over a planned One Woman Show, which Seagile pursued as an alleged breach of contract and reputational damage. Seagile reportedly obtained an urgent High Court order, which led to Makhadzi surrendering her passport. He and Gilbert Promotions rejected the “kidnapping” description, saying they were enforcing a legitimate court order.
