Model and lifestyle creator Nara Smith has shared the heartbreaking news that her two-year-old daughter, Whimsy Lou was diagnosed with cancer late last year. The 24-year-old influencer, best known for her from-scratch cooking videos revealed the family’s private battle in an emotional Instagram reel. Nara explained that she and her husband Lucky Smith chose to keep the diagnosis private while they focused on their daughter’s treatment.
The health scare began when the couple noticed something unusual and rushed Whimsy to the emergency room. Although doctors were initially unable to determine the cause, Nara said she became increasingly concerned during a follow-up appointment with their paediatrician.
She recalled that the doctor’s calm but serious demeanour immediately made her fear something was wrong. After being referred to a children’s hospital, Whimsy underwent several tests, including X-rays, ultrasounds, and a biopsy. The results confirmed that the toddler had cancer, that it had already spread, and that she needed to begin chemotherapy immediately.
The diagnosis came during an already challenging time for the family. Smith had recently welcomed her fourth child, Fawnie Golden, in September 2025 and was still recovering postpartum while balancing hospital stays, caring for her other children, and continuing her work. She said the experience was incredibly difficult and explained that it was the reason she had been posting less on social media over the past several months.
What's your hot take on this story?
Although Nara chose not to reveal the specific type of cancer her daughter was diagnosed with, she shared that the family has thankfully made it through the most intense stage of treatment. She also expressed deep gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and medical staff who cared for Whimsy throughout her journey.
Nara said she decided to speak publicly about their experience because serious childhood illnesses can often feel isolating. Connecting with other parents facing similar challenges helped her feel less alone, and she hopes sharing her story will provide comfort and support to other families going through difficult times. She also encouraged parents to trust their instincts when they feel something isn’t right with their child’s health, saying her own mother’s intuition played an important role in seeking further medical attention.
