The Montecasino Outdoor Event Area was packed with music lovers this past weekend as Red Bull Symphonic: Afro House, Our Home brought together thousands of fans for a special celebration of South African House music. Following the success of previous Red Bull Symphonic shows focused on Amapiano, this year’s event paid tribute to House music; the genre that laid the foundation for South Africa’s modern dance scene.
For the first time in Red Bull Symphonic history, two headlining artists shared the stage. Sun-El Musician and Dlala Thukzin delivered a unique performance that showcased two different sides of South African dance music. Sun-El Musician brought his emotional and soulful sound to the stage with favourites such as “Akanamali” and “Ubomi Abumanga.” Dlala Thukzin added high-energy Durban flavour with hits like the multi-platinum song “iPlan.” Leading the musical production was conductor Chad Hendricks and the KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra. Together with a live choir, the 33-piece orchestra reimagined the artists’ biggest songs, blending electronic beats, live instruments, and powerful vocals.

The orchestra transformed deep Afro-House melodies and hard-hitting Gqom rhythms into a breathtaking live experience, keeping the crowd entertained throughout both nights. Fans who could not attend the sold-out event were still able to enjoy the show thanks to a live broadcast on SABC1, made possible through a partnership between SABC and Red Bull Media House. More than just a concert, Red Bull Symphonic celebrated South Africa’s rich musical heritage. It highlighted the influence of House music on genres such as Kwaito, Gqom, Amapiano, and the growing 3-Step movement, proving that South African dance music continues to evolve while staying connected to its roots.
