Six voices. No instruments. One extraordinary night of South African
vocal jazz in Braamfontein on Saturday, 12 September.

Two-time Grammy-nominated vocal ensemble Just 6 will take the stage at
Jazz at Jozi Gold in Braamfontein on Saturday, 12 September 2026,
bringing their six-voice sound to one of Johannesburg’s most intimate
live music rooms.

There are no instruments on stage. Every bass line, drum kick, harmony,
and horn flourish comes from the human voice alone. Just 6 calls it
Afro-Vocal Play – a style that moves between jazz, R&B, pop, and
traditional African rhythm, and that started, unglamorously, in a
bathroom the group chose for its acoustics. That has since carried them
to stages across Africa and Europe, and to two Grammy nominations.

The ensemble is made up of Ntuthuko Malaza, Rashaka Mbevhana, Kwande
Cakata, Mthandazo Hospas, Fezile Mavuso, and Nkosie Hospas – six voices
that, together, sound like a lot more than six people.

“What has been incredibly exciting for us over the past few weeks is
seeing just how strongly Johannesburg has responded to these Saturday
nights. There’s a real energy building around Jazz at Jozi Gold that
feels bigger than any one artist or performance. People are coming
early, staying for the evening and, importantly, coming back the
following week. You can feel that there is a genuine appetite in Joburg
for a regular live jazz  experience where the music is the focus and
where audiences can be this close to some of South Africa’s most
extraordinary talent” says Nadia Jardine. “The response has really
encouraged us to keep pushing the programme and to keep it interesting.
Just 6 is a perfect example of that. They come from a completely
different angle, but what they do is rooted in extraordinary
musicianship, jazz, African rhythm and performance. Six voices creating
the sound and energy of an entire band in a room this intimate is going
to be something very special. For us, that is exactly what Jazz at Jozi
Gold should be about: giving audiences a reason to make live music in
Braamfontein part of their Saturday night again.”

The show forms part of Jozi Gold Brewing Company’s growing Jazz at Jozi
Gold series, which brings South African musicians to 81 De Korte Street
in Braamfontein, once home to Johannesburg’s legendary Orbit jazz club.
It’s part of a wider push to bring live jazz back to the neighbourhood
in the same close, unpolished settings where the music has always worked
best.

With Johannesburg heading into one of its busiest months for jazz,
including the annual Standard Bank Joy of Jazz, Just 6 offers something
different on the calendar: six voices, one room, no band.
