Naija’s Qing Madi named Spotify’s ambassador, joins EQUAL programme

Nigerian singer and songwriter Qing Madi has been announced as Spotify’s ambassador and becomes the latest artist to join EQUAL Africa Music programme.

Born Chimamanda Pearl Chukwuma, Madi has joined the music-streaming giant and has expressed delight in the partnership.

Madi joins the programme that was launched in March 2021, and it is aimed at empowering female musicians to close the gap.

At the same time, it is all about fostering gender equality by amplifying their work and exposing their catalogue to global listenership.

Madi admits that operating in a male-dominated industry brings challenges and she had to work a million times harder to be seen and heard.

She is confident that being part of the EQUAL programme is an opportunity for a female to be visible globally and to grow her fan base.

According to Music In Africa, as the EQUAL Africa ambassador for the month of June, the Afrobeats singer will benefit from a suite of playlists and marketing tools.

“We are proud to welcome Qing Madi to the EQUAL programme, and we’re so excited to see how her talent continues to take her from strength to strength,” said Spotify’s head of music for sub-Saharan Africa, Phiona Okumu.

Okumu added that they hope by shining a light on talent like hers and they can inspire a new generation of creators.

Apart from Afrobeats, Madi also produces music in various genres such as pop, soul and R&B and she is the golden voice behind singles like ‘See Finish’ and ‘Why’.

She concluded by saying music wasn’t just a talent or an ability for her but it is her comfortable and confident space as a teenager.

The talented singer added that Music was her destiny from the first time she climbed on stage and held the microphone.

Looking at some of the artists in the programme, Madi joins the likes of Nigerian musos in the form of Tiwa Savage, Ayra Starr and FAVE among others.
