Volkswagen reveals details for the all-new Transporter

Volkswagen has finally spilled the deets on the all-new Transporter, revealing more juicy details about its configurations and payload. While it’s been teased since December last year, the official scoop is now out, and it’s got the automotive world shaking.

Priced from €36 780 (that’s around R743 294 in South African rands), this sleek new ride from Wolfsburg is set to hit the streets early next year. It marks the third collaboration between Volkswagen and Ford, following the success of the Amarok and the Caddy.

The Transporter is packing serious versatility, offering five bodystyles to suit every need, from panel vans to combination variants. And let’s not forget the Kombi and Caravelle options in the mix. While we’re still waiting for the full lowdown on these, one thing’s for sure: there’s something for everyone.

With increased dimensions and a beefed-up load compartment, the Transporter means business. And if you opt for the long wheelbase model with the high roof, you’re looking at even more storage space to play with.

Under the hood, you’ve got your pick of diesel or fully electric power. The diesel version can handle a payload of up to 1.3 tonnes, while the electric variant tops out at 1 000 kg. Plus, it’s got some serious towing power with a claimed rating of 2.8 tonnes.

Inside, the Transporter has a slick interior with Volkswagen-specific touches and all the tech you could ask for, from a 13-inch touchscreen infotainment system to wireless smartphone charging and up to seven USB ports. And let’s not forget about the hybrid option, which combines petrol power with a lithium-ion battery pack for an impressive all-electric range.

With its cutting-edge features and top-notch performance, the Transporter is set to make waves when it hits the streets next year. While its South African debut is still up in the air, one thing’s for sure: this ride is worth the wait.

Stay on the lookout for more updates as they drop throughout the year.
