Mzansi’s most loved Buccaneers just proved they can serve off the field too. Orlando Pirates took their new 2026/27 third jersey from the pitch to South African Fashion Week on Saturday, 24 October, becoming the first PSL club to headline a dedicated showcase.
The show, titled Field to Fashion, took over the AW27 runway at The Forum, Hyde Park Corner in Johannesburg. SAFW billed the collaboration as a first for Fashion Week globally.
Pirates players stepped out in looks created with South African designers Neo Serati, David Tlale and Yona, swapping football boots for designer fits. The showcase mixed streetwear-inspired fits with elevated looks and explored how player arrivals and tunnel walks have become fashion moments of their own.
The runway also doubled as the debut of the club’s new third kit. The shirt has a dark maroon base with a geometric graphic inspired by the rooftops and urban landscape of Soweto, in shades of red, dusky orange and light purple. It went on sale through the club’s online store and physical shops from 25 October, with a wider release through Adidas and select retailers on 30 October.
What's your hot take on this story?
Football and fashion are no strangers at the Home of Legends. Pirates have previously linked the two through designer Thebe Magugu, who collaborated with Adidas on the 2023/24 home and away shirts. The runway moment also arrives as the club builds towards a big milestone, with the 90th anniversary celebration set for 2027.
For SAFW, the collab is about more than spectacle. It supports the platform’s push for a commercially sustainable South African designer fashion industry by connecting designers with the cultural influence of football. For Bucs supporters, it’s proof that the Sea Robbers can win on the pitch and on the catwalk.
