Investigations for Muvhango’s missing R3 Million lead to the arrest of a Senior Production Manager!

Inside jobs do not always work out as planned. Not so long ago, local SABC2 soapie Muvhango lost a shocking R3.3 million ‘’petty cash’’ in what was suspected as an inside job. Shockingly, the suspicions were proven right when a senior production manager was arrested on Sunday in connection with the missing money.

A former senior manager of the popular SABC2 soapie, Muvhango, has appeared in court on charges of fraud and theft in access of R3 million.

This according to the Sowetan Live, who have revealed that the former employee, in the role of Production Manager, appeared in the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court in Johannesburg yesterday.

The man, who is being kept in police custody, was responsible for planning and managing the soapie’s shooting schedule as well as managing all invoicing matters.

As part of his job, he was also entrusted with managing the soapie’s petty cash funds.

The charge sheet, seen by the publication, reads: “[He] created fictitious service providers and/or names and/or persons and would, from time to time, pay out cash from the petty cash [into his own account] while pretending to pay service providers and/or persons”.

“The accused signed on the receipt book in lieu of allowing the recipient of the amounts mentioned… to sign as per the required company policy. The accused also did not use the company’s receipt books while doing so.

“The accused failed to give a detailed account of the recipients of the money and also could not give a sufficient description of the purpose of such payments,” the charge sheet continues.

The accused will remain in police custody until a plea and bail hearing on the 17th of October 2017.
