The South African Springboks brought the Rugby World Cup home beating the New Zealand’s All Blacks 11-12, just by one point.

The Springboks have had a winning streak with one pointers saving them for the past three matches with France, England and now the All Blacks.

The match wouldn’t have been complete without the All Blacks performing the Haka, which didn’t seem to intimidate the Boks. The Springboks opened with a lead and stayed put. There was a 7 point try from the All Blacks which would’ve meant that they would take the lead, but it was reversed. They also missed two crucial penalty kicks.

The All Blacks held their own during the match even after losing their captain Sam Cane at a very early stage. They played as if they had a full team. South Africa’s Mbongeni Mbonambi also sustained an injury that saw him leaving the pitch early, exposing the Bokke. South African then took two more blows with captain Siya Kolisi and Cheslin Kolbe being given yellow cards. Kolbe couldn’t watch the final seven minutes and had his shirt over his face. It was too much to take in.

The last scrumb of the match was one that South Africa fought to save their lives and it was fireworks as soon as referee Wayne Barnes blew the final whistle, crowning the Springboks World Champions for the fourth time in history.

Kolisi said this was more than just a win to South Africans.

“People who are not from South Africa don’t understand what it means for our country. It is not just about the game. Our country goes through such a lot,” he said. “I want to tell the people of South Africa, ‘Thank you so much’. This team just shows what you can do.”

The match was definitely worthy of a final.
