The local football community is once again enveloped in sorrow with the untimely passing of George Chigova, the skilled goalkeeper for both the Warriors and SuperSport United, who died at the age of 32. It is known that the former Dynamos goalkeeper battled a heart illness for an extended period.
Chigova’s health struggles began to surface in July when he was diagnosed with a heart issue, leading to his absence from the initial part of the season. SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt had previously provided a medical update four months ago, revealing the severity of the condition afflicting the accomplished goalkeeper.
Commencing his career at Gunners, Chigova later transitioned to Dynamos before making a move to SuperSport in 2014. He then ventured to Polokwane City, only to return to Pretoria in 2020.
Throughout his illustrious career, Chigova proudly donned the Zimbabwe national team jersey on thirty occasions, showcasing his talent, particularly in the African Cup of Nations. His contribution to the sport and his country leaves an indelible mark on the hearts of those who admired his skill and dedication.
