Bafana Bafana’s Hugo Broos to lead Tunisian National Team

The soccer world reports that Bafana Bafana’s head coach, Hugo Broos, is about to take on a new challenge as the head coach of the Tunisian national team.

News out of Tunisia suggests that Broos is all set to step into the shoes of Montasser Louhichi, who’s been holding the fort as interim coach since Jalel Kadri’s departure after a disappointing Africa Cup of Nations stint. Mosaique FM reveals that Tunisia is eagerly awaiting Broos to wrap up his exit negotiations with the South African Football Association.

Just last week, Broos shrugged off rumours linking him to the technical director post at Belgium’s Club Brugge as mere gossip. He also denied claims from the previous month about talks with Tunisia or Algeria.

Currently, Broos is in Algeria with Bafana Bafana, gearing up for a friendly against the north Africans in the Fifa Series on Tuesday evening.

Earlier this year, Broos led South Africa to their best Africa Cup of Nations finish in 24 years, securing the bronze medal in a showdown with Ivory Coast.

Since then, speculations have been rife about Broos leaving his post. “I heard rumours that Algeria were interested, that Tunisia were interested, and some other teams, also Brugge,” he mentioned last week.

“But again, there are no negotiations. I didn’t see the people of Brugge. I know only that I am on the list and one of the candidates, so let’s see what happens in the future.

“I have a contract until 2026, so if there will be a moment that maybe I can leave or want to leave South Africa, then I still have to negotiate with SAFA.”
