Orlando Pirates defeat Amazulu 2-4 in the Nedbank Cup

Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro was feeling happy after their epic win against AmaZulu in the Nedbank Cup showdown at Moses Mabhida Stadium over the weekend. And let’s just say, the game was lit.

Patrick Maswanganyi stole the spotlight with a killer brace and Kabelo Dlamini and Makhehleni Makhaula added some extra spice leading Pirates to secure a 2-4 victory, placing the in the Nedbank Cup semi finals. But let’s not forget AmaZulu’s Hendrick Ekstein and Taariq Fielies, who brought their A-game too with two solid goals.

Riveiro couldn’t stop raving about the electric atmosphere in Durban, where the fans showed up in full force. “It’s unbelievable to play here,” he said. And you know what? Pirates delivered, putting on a show that had everyone on their feet.

Riveiro also gave credit where it’s due, admitting that AmaZulu brought their game too. It was a showdown filled with passion and emotion, and both teams left it all on the field.

Despite AmaZulu scoring first, Pirates came out swinging from the get-go. They dominated the game from the opening minutes, but as Riveiro put it, they just couldn’t capitalize on their early momentum. No worries though, because Pirates never doubted they’d come out on top.

“I felt quite confident that the game was going to go our way,” Riveiro said. And go their way it did! Looks like Pirates know a thing or two about owning the cup games like bosses.

    Congratulations to Pirates.
