South Africa has a new queen, and she’s already making waves! Pearl Mathebula, a 17-year-old from the small village of Makotopong near Polokwane, has just etched her name in South African history by winning the prestigious title of Miss Teen Model International 2025.
Pearl was crowned during a dazzling finale in Lima, Peru, on June 14, where she triumphed over contestants from all around the world. Her victory has made her the first South African to claim the title, bringing the crown home to South Africa for the very first time.
Her incredible achievement comes after a remarkable journey in the world of pageantry. Pearl first entered the spotlight when she won the Miss Teenager South Africa crown in late 2024. This followed a year of perseverance, as she had reached the top 10 in the 2023 edition but was not crowned.

From there, she earned the right to represent South Africa at the Miss Teen Model International competition, where she dazzled judges and emerged victorious.
Pearl shared her excitement, admitting that the moment was overwhelmingly emotional. “At first, I was doubting myself. I was the only black woman in the competition, and I worried that I wouldn’t be picked because I am black and don’t speak Spanish. But when I won and saw the joy I brought to my country, that was the most fulfilling moment. It was for South Africa,” she said.
Yesterday, Pearl was welcomed back to South Africa with a warm reception at the airport, as excited supporters cheered for their hometown hero. Her win not only marks a personal achievement but also highlights South Africa’s growing influence on the international pageant scene.
