Celebz have gathered on social media to boycott and express their disappointment at H&M for its alleged racial ad. Although H&M has apologized for the offensive and racist ad that has been doing the rounds on social media, celebville is fed up with the brand.
In the ad, a young, black boy is seen wearing and advertising a hoodie that reads “Coolest Monkey in the Jungle”.
Needless to say, this has caused an outcry of unhappiness towards the brands with many calling for a boycott and some even asking for the brand’s clothing to be burned.
Never one to be left behind, Mzansi celebs have also taken to social media to express their complete disgust over the racist ad.
“I’ve never been a fan of @hm since day 1 they launched in South Africa. First they never had ppl of color in their campaigns even when they came to Africa. Now this. Let’s show them the power of monkey rand by not buying ish from them,” said Somizi on Instagram.
Other big-name celebs have echoed Somizi’s sentiments, commenting on his post and saying that they are done with H&M.
“I, unfortunately have some @hm clothing … that I’m burning in the morning ,” said Kwesta.
Minnie Dlamini on the other hand, commented and said: “F**k them actually”.
Meanwhile, H&M’s international brand ambassador, The Weekend has announced that he will no longer be working with the brand.
“Woke up this morning shocked and embarrassed by this photo. I’m deeply offended and will not be working with @hm anymore,” he said.
More and more international celebrities are also voicing their disgust over the ad.
“Put some respect on it!! When you look at us make sure you see royalty and super natural God sent glory!! Anything else is disrespectful,” said P Diddy.
