It has been reported that Robbie Malinga’s family confirmed yesterday that the legendary producer was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer in June.

At a press conference outside his house in Joburg yesterday, his dad Coleman (69) said: “I didn’t see Robbie as my son. He was like a brother to me.

“When you saw us talking, you would swear we were friends and not father and son.

“Our talks would be accompanied by singing and dancing as we both were musical people.”

Kwaito legend Doc Shebeleza said Robbie was surrounded by his family when he died on Monday.

“He invited his whole family from his wife’s side and from his own to his house on Christmas Day,” he said.

Doc said when Robbie took his last breath, he was holding hands with his brother.

“I hope to be like him. I also want to be surrounded by my family when my time comes,” said Doc.

Brother Bheki said Robbie was a people’s person.

The family said a memorial service will be held at Grace Bible Church in Soweto tomorrow and the funeral will take place at Rhema Bible Church in Randburg on Tuesday.
