Fans share mixed reactions as Orlando Pirates unveil shirt for 2022/23 season

The upcoming 2022/23 DStv Premiership season is only a few weeks away but Orlando Pirates are the talk of the town after unveiling a new football strip.

Pirates are looking to challenge for trophies in the upcoming campaign and the hard to please fans are already sharing their views on the brand new shirt.

Through their sponsors, Adidas, the club announced the new shirt on Thursday morning, and social media is abuzz with reviews on the home and away shirt.

Having recently announced a new coach in Jose Riveiro and parted ways with top players such as Thulani Hlatshwayo and long-serving skipper Happy Jele, there’s no doubt the Buccaneers will be under pressure to return to glory.

“The new kit pays homage to the Soweto giants as they celebrate 85 years this year. The range consists of two new designs: a Home jersey (charcoal) and an Away jersey (grey & white),” reads the statement from the club.

“The home charcoal jersey features silver accents and logos, alongside red trim on the collar and cuffs. A subtle striping pattern covers the front and sleeves.

“The Adidas Orlando Pirates Away jersey introduces a smart design graphics in white, with accents of grey patterns, black collar, and red piping, with the historic “Skull and Crossbones” logo adorning the back of both jerseys, symbolising the Club’s roots.”

    Thapelo Afrika said:

“What does this jersey represent? Failure in cup finals? Failure in the league? Failure to keep our captain who saved our season last season? All for 1k?? No!”

Another social media user, Mzi, is already planning to buy himself a shirt this coming weekend and praised the club for coming up with a stunning shirt.

“Beautiful jerseys worth the price, I am getting mine this weekend.”

    Pamela Ndimande said:

“The price is really not much of an issue. The only problem is it really carries no substance. I would rather buy a Royal AM shirt or Cape Town City shirt than this. I wouldn’t even be proud of wearing it. This team has let us down for far too long.”

    Ahmed Mustafa responded:

“Never disappoint. A very beautiful, slick, and elegant jersey. I am gunning for this one.”
