“Will Smith’s slap on Chris Rock was purely about 2Pac” – Tony Rock

In a much publicised dramatic scene involving Will Smith and Chris Rock during a live Annual Academy Awards ceremony back in March, new details have emerged as to why Smith slapped Rock.

Chris’ brother, Tony, alleges that the slap was not mainly because of a joke shared by the comedian, Chris, on Jada Pinkett Smith.

However, he says the actor decided to slap the the comedian and actor simply because he felt jealous because his wife, Jada, who is still in love with the late rapper Tupac Shakur.

Speaking on the Top Billin’ with Bill Bellamy podcast, Tony shared his thoughts about Will smacking his brother, dismissing rumours that it was all about Jada.

“No. (It was not about Jada) He laughed first. So that’s not embarrassment. He was laughing. When they cut to my brother and cut back, he was already up walking…So maybe it was the Jada look,” said Tony.

“I think that (Oscar Slap) was the accumulation of him being slapped on other levels.

“He said it himself, he always hated the ‘soft moniker.’ He’s soft, Jada won’t let 2Pac die, it’s always something about 2Pac, and his daughter (Willow Smith) brought up 2Pac. And I’m not bringing up family stuff that people don’t know… this is stuff that everybody knows.

“(Jada) commonly talks about Tupac and her relationship with 2Pac. As a married man to this woman, you’re like, ‘Damn is what I’m doing not enough?’”

Meanwhile, despite the slap, Smith went on to secure a lead role in a new film titled Emancipation and he is set to collect $35 million for the thriller.

Film Updates indicate that the staggering fee is the highest upfront salary reported by this year.
