Retired Bafana Bafana midfielder Steven Pienaar has bragged about his massive achievement after hanging up his boots.
The former Ajax Cape Amsterdam and Everton midfielder has obtained a top coaching qualification in football, the UEFA Pro Licence.
Currently part of the backroom staff at Dutch Eredivisie giants Ajax Amsterdam where he serves as one of the U18 team’s assistant managers, ‘Schillo’ says he is proud of himself.
Apart from starring for clubs such as Ajax and the Toffees in Europe, the Westbury-born legend also featured for Tottenham Hotspur and coached the youth team on an interim basis last season.
As he looks to climb the coaching ladder, he has boosted his credentials by bagging a prestigious UEFA A Licence – he headed to social media to share the news.
“I’m so proud of myself never thought I would go all the way, but where there’s a way, there’s a will. Happy days, special thanks to all the mentors on the course and my colleagues for all the help, and last but not least my wife @awapienaar for pushing me hard#GodisGreat,” he wrote.
The 40-year-old also headed to Twitter where he thanked the almighty for guiding him through the process and giving him strength.
“Thank you Heavenly Father for giving me the strength to keep going when I was doubting myself so happy and proud. Special thanks to my family for the support I got from them love you guys,” he said.
Pienaar was part of the Bafana squad during the 2010 FIFA World Cup, he featured for his country in over 60 matches before retiring in 2018.
In the South African Premier Soccer League, the nippy creative midfielder played for the now defunct Bidvest Wits and Ajax Cape Town.
