‘What Now’ Podcast: Trevor Noah welcomes Dwayne Johnson as his first guest

The global comedian and media personality, Trevor Noah has ventured into the very on demand podcast industry. His show is titled ‘What Now’ on Spotify, and the first episode features Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

The former host of The Daily Show plans to engage in insightful conversations with special guests, delving into their stories while sharing candid reflections on his own life and career. The podcast’s debut episode, released on November 9th, featured none other than Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, one of the world’s most prominent movie stars.

Having interviewed A-listers during his Daily Show tenure, including Kevin Hart, Will Smith, and Nomzamo Mbatha, Noah’s podcast promises more in-depth discussions. In the inaugural interview, Trevor and Dwayne Johnson explored the actor’s career, philanthropy, and even touched upon the prospect of a presidential run. Johnson also bravely discussed his lifelong battle with depression.

The ‘What Now’ podcast, a part of Spotify’s ongoing effort to broaden its podcast offerings, can be streamed on the platform. Notably, in 2022, Spotify pledged a $100,000 grant to support South African podcasters, making Trevor Noah the most high-profile South African to launch a podcast on the global streaming service.

In an interview with Variety, Trevor Noah outlined his aspirations for the podcast, emphasizing its role as a space for dynamic conversations. He expressed a commitment to avoiding echo chambers, noting the tendency for individuals to surround themselves with like-minded perspectives. Noah aims to foster an environment where diverse ideas are explored, challenging preconceived notions and promoting intellectual growth and connections with others.
