As soon as you meet the right person, you soon find yourself talking about moving in together. But how soon is soon? How do you know when the right time to move in together is? Let’s break it down so you can be weary of some signs before making your final decision.
- Get to know each other better.
It’s important to know understand who your person is outside the usual work week routine. Go out for dinner. Get to see them in a new setup. See how they interacts with restaurant staff for example because that says a lot about someone. You might see a new side.
- Spend time with their friends.
Don’t attempt to be one of the boys/girls. But, make sure you at least spend an evening with their crew to get an understanding of the kind of company they keep. If side chicks are in attendance, then girl, you have your answer. Gents, if you spend time with her friends and they have their side gents there instead of the main ones you met before, you also have your answer. A person’s company says a lot about them.
- Travel together.
When you travel with your person, you will get to see another side to them because you’re stuck together. Literally. This bonding time is essential because you might get to see how your person responds to sticky situations like getting stuck and needing to change a tire, running out of petrol, or getting lost on the way.
- Meet their family.
If there’s one thing about family members, it’s that they won’t pretend. If they have beef, they’ll address it. This will show you the kind of family you are about to get into talks with. But let’s not assume that they’ll be all bad. Some families are actually great and they are welcoming and accommodating. Get to know them.
- Make sure you are comfortable with moving in together.
This needs to be a decision that affects both of you. A decision that you have both agreed on and a decision that you will both be comfortable with. Last thing you want is to find yourself stuck in a living situation that you can’t get yourself out of. The reality is that leaving a toxic living situation isn’t as simple as some might say it is.
