Nigerian music producer and artist, Chisom Faith, popularly known as Rexxie, found himself in custody in Uganda, as revealed through his Instagram post this morning.
While detained by Ugandan Immigration, Rexxie did not specify the reason for his arrest, but he deemed it unjust. Urging his followers for support, he launched the hashtag campaign #UgandaFreeRexxie. The post prompted calls for assistance, with Rexxie seeking help to secure his release.
The incident bears similarities to the arrest of Nigerian musicians Omah Lay and Tems, who faced legal action and detention in Uganda for their participation in a concert at Speke Resort, Kampala, violating COVID-19 protocols. Despite the subsequent release of Omah Lay and Tems after two days in jail, Rexxie’s situation remains unresolved.
