Mashata Mabuse’s memorial and funeral details announced

South African MC, DJ, and businessman Peter “Mashata” Mabuse’s memorial and funeral services have been announced following his tragic death.

Mashata was shot and killed in Soshanguve, northwest of Pretoria, on Sunday, 21 April, after a gig at Epozini Lifestyle in the same township.

The memorial service is set for Thursday, 25 April, at Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) Pretoria West Campus from 14:00 to 18:00. Later that evening, a tribute concert at Emperors Palace, organized by Paul Mtirara, Wilson B Nkosi, DJ Young, and Mashabela, will honor his memory, with proceeds going to the Mabuse family.

Flowers can be dropped off at his family’s home in Block U, on Rina Street in Mabopane, from 14:00 to 17:00 on Saturday, 27 April. The funeral service will be held the following day at the Akasia Community Hall from 08:00.

A memorial service was held at Emperor’s palace yesterday.

In the wake of Mashata’s assassination, Amapiano producer and performer Kabza De Small, who was scheduled to perform at Bom Extravaganza All Black Edition on Freedom Day, 27 April, in Soshanguve, has cancelled his appearance due to safety concerns. Despite efforts to guarantee his safety, including adding highly trained VIP security, Kabza’s management decided it was best to cancel the event.

The South African Police Service is working to counter the crime in Soshanguve, holding an Imbizo in Jukulyn last week to address the issue. Deputy Police Minister Cassel Mathale promised to recall retired detectives to assist with over 300 active crimes in Soshanguve’s Jukulyn area.

With Kabza’s cancellation, the organisers of the All Black Edition have promised to replace him with another well-known artist for the event.
