TikTok sensation Tums The Narrator is leveling up her game and diving headfirst into the world of comedy. While she’s been keeping her TikTok audience entertained with her witty content, she’s now setting her sights on making people laugh in a whole new way.
The excitement peaked as she received not one, but two nominations at the recent Savanna Comics’ Choice Comedy Awards, held on Saturday, April 13th. Hailing from Ruimsig in Joburg, Tums found herself in the running for the Sauce of the Year Award, courtesy of Mrs Ball’s, and the UpLIFTing Comedic Comedy Award, backed by LIFT.
Speaking with Daily Sun, the comedic TikToker, also known as Tumi Mmope, shared her thoughts on the nominations and her comedic journey.
“Being nominated felt like hitting the jackpot! Just having two nods in the comedic realm is a win in itself. Sure, there were nerves and a bit of stress, but overall, I’m absolutely thrilled,” she said.
Her venture into comedy came as a natural progression from her hilarious TikTok escapades. However, transitioning to comedy hasn’t been a walk in the park compared to winning over TikTok audiences.
“I started with TikTok, using it as my comedic playground. Comedy found me, really. I sprinkle humour into educational content, which landed me in the comedy sphere,” she explained.
But let’s not sugarcoat it—breaking into South African comedy isn’t a walk in the park.
“It’s a tough crowd out there, and perfecting your craft is key. I’m always honing my skills to meet the high comedic standards. Nevertheless, rubbing shoulders with comedians I admire was a surreal experience,” she shared.
With the nominations under her belt, Tums is ready to take her comedy game to new heights.
“Bagging the DStv Content of the Year Award at last year’s DStv Content Creator Awards, and now this double nomination, it’s like a rocket boost for me. I’m fueled up and ready to rock the comedy scene,” Tumi affirmed, with a twinkle of excitement in her eye.
