The Nigerian film industry is in mourning as news spreads of the passing of veteran actress Madam Elizabeth Evoeme, beloved for her role as Ovularia in the iconic 1980s TV series “The New Masquerade.”
Evoeme, who was 81 years old, had previously been the subject of false death rumors in 2019. Her family, the Evoeme Emekalam family, has issued a statement thanking everyone for their support and requesting privacy during this difficult time.
Born on December 1, 1942, Evoeme’s passing was confirmed by a family member, who stated that she passed away surrounded by loved ones. The family’s statement expressed gratitude to fans, friends, and colleagues for their support and asked for privacy as they grieve.
In their statement, the Evoeme Emekalam family said:
“Friends, fans, colleagues, the family of the legendary actress, Elizabeth Lizzy ‘Ovularia’ Evoeme, would like to notify the public, all those who loved her and her work in ‘The new Masquerade,’ of her passing.
“Elizabeth ‘Ovularia’ Evoeme will be dearly missed and was extremely loved by her family and also by you, her fans.
“We thank you all for your support and for respecting our privacy at this time. God bless you all and may our dear Elizabeth ‘Ovularia’ Evoeme rest in perfect peace, now and always.”
