Will Messi wear the Barca shirt again?

Lionel Messi’s father has seemingly dropped a huge hint as to what his family wants regarding the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner’s future. Barcelona president Joan Laporta, meanwhile, has caused a stir with comments of his own.

Although his numbers of 11 goals and 13 assists in 33 matches in all competitions in this campaign so far suggest his second season at Paris Saint-Germain is one to look forward to, several people close to Messi are desperate for him to return to Barcelona.

Dani Alves and a number of his former teammates have admitted seeing the Argentine back in the Catalan club’s colours is what they want, despite the 34-year-old having a contract in Paris until 2023.

Over the weekend, his father Jorge Messi appeared to give many Barca supporters hope when he was asked if there was a chance his son would wear the Blaugrana shirt again.

“I hope it happens, someday,” was his response, according to Twitch channel Jijantes FC.

It is still unclear if his father, who acts as his agent, is working on a potential return for the 2021 Copa America winner, while Barcelona’s economic situation is another factor to consider.

The club is reportedly open to selling a high-profile player in the coming transfer window, with midfielder Frenkie de Jong heavily linked with a big-money move to Manchester United following their appointment of Dutch tactician Erik ten Hag.

In a recent interview, meanwhile, Barca president Laporta insisted that he too would love to see Messi back at Barcelona, fuelling speculation the club might be willing to make the necessary arrangements in order for a move for the Argentine to materialise.
