American veteran football player, actor, and broadcaster Orenthal James Simpson, known to many as OJ Simpson has passed away after a battle with cancer at 76 years old.
His family announced his passing through his social media platforms, stating, “On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace.”
In February, it was reported that OJ had been diagnosed with prostate cancer, a fact he had previously denied. “My health is good. I mean, obviously, I’m dealing with some issues, but I think I’m just about over it,” he had said in a video just two months ago.
OJ’s life was marked by both triumph and tragedy. His marriage to Nicole Brown was surrounded by allegations of abuse, leading to their divorce in 1992. Tragically, Nicole and her friend Ronald Goldman were found stabbed to death in 1994. While OJ was acquitted of the murders in 1995, he was later found liable for both deaths in a civil lawsuit.
Throughout his life, OJ was married twice and had five children, though tragically, his daughter Aaren passed away in 1979 at just under two years old after drowning in the family pool.
Despite the controversies that surrounded him, OJ Simpson leaves behind a complex legacy.
