Mamelodi Sundowns set to dedicate matches to late Anele Ngcongca

Mamelodi Sundowns have confirmed that the club will dedicate some of their matches to late defender in honour of Anele Ngcongca.

According to the statement on their website, the team has not had the easiest week after the passing of the star and the match against Stellenbosch didn’t seem to make things any easier for them. “Mamelodi Sundowns has had a terrible week since the passing of Anele Ngcongca. The mood was sombre going into the clash against Stellenbosch. It was an emotional match for Masandawana and nothing other than three points would have been befitting to celebrate the life of the fallen teammate and brother.”

Sundowns won their match against Stellenbosch with 3-0, and during the after-match interview, the players dedicated to Anele. His friend and roommate, player number 7, Lyle Lakay said “we dedicate the win, the performance, and the fighting spirit that we gave. It represents him as everybody knows him for his hard work and dedication, and his humility. He was one of the guys who, most of the youngsters surrounded themselves with because of his experience in the game.”

The 33-year-old Cape Town-born right-back died last week after he was involved in a motor vehicle accident in KwaZulu-Natal, where he was due to join AmaZulu on loan.
